Small Water Boulders, Haweswater

Over the last 18 months or so a solid circuit has been fleshed out on the boulders scattered across the slopes surrounding Small Water tarn, at the head of the Haweswater valley. With problems from 5+ to 8A being climbed by various individuals, including Dan Turner, Kris Hall, John Hartley Timo Makower and myself.

The bouldering consists of a collection of boulders and mini-buttresses adjacent to, or on the upper slopes overlooking the tarn. The main attractions are the Piot Boulder high on the slopes below Piot Crag and Striped Wall, overlooking the tarns SW edge.

The Piot Boulder features a steeply overhanging face with a number of board style problems up it. While the problems on the Stripped Wall utilise a uniquely striated rock. There are also a number of other worthwhile problems on the small buttresses and blocks around the tarn with a bit more scope for development.

A full listing of the blocks can be found on UKClimbing.com
