Carrock Fell: Home 8B

Dan Varian has climbed another hard new problem, this time at Carrock Fell.

The new climb takes on the very thin, 25 degree overhanging face to the right of Leopold von Buch (7C/V9) on the obvious wall high above the Northern Group Circuit. This starts right of centre on two chest height, 'half-moon' opposing crimps in the centre of the dark streak. From here quest up, tick-tacking between small, stretched holds to a high step to reach the small ramp in the centre of the wall and top out direct. Dan has named his new toughy Home, and when asked to elaborate he went on to say: "Its called home because I can see my village from up there and I feel at "home" on that style of climbing, as it suits me to a tee". At 8B/V13 it is now one of the hardest bloc lines in the Lake District national park.

An even harder sitter awaits, coming in from the obvious good hold down the right. Dan has worked the moves on this project and reckons it will weigh in around the 8B+/V14 mark when and if it gets climbed.
