Lad Stones: Lancaster Bomber & Traci Repeat
Written by Greg Chapman Friday, 27 July 2012 07:08
Continuing his sterling efforts to get things done despite the less than favourable weather conditions, Dan Varian has been hard at work at the Lad Stones, Tilberthwaite - one of the Lakes best, yet least visited bouldering venues.
First up, he made good use of the improved 'spring board' landing below Mick's Arete on the Panorama Stone, to send the striking sit down start to this big and imposing line. Dan christened the sit start Lancaster Bomber and offered 7C/V9 as a grade, although I wouldn't be surprised if ends up settling out around 7C+/V10.
Right: Dan Varian working the low/sitting start of Traci Lords.
Also well worthy of a mention, was Dan's repeat of Traci Lords, on the Bothy Boulder, which despite is relatively amenable (by modern standards) top-end grade of 8A/V11 has seen few if any previous repeats. This despite being a corking line and having been established nearly 10 years ago!
There is a video (unfortunately from a slightly unflattering angle) of Dan repeating Traci Lords below.

NEW Lad Stones Guide: A new guide should be available later this year.
