‘New’ Crag - Windy Clough
Written by LakesBloc Tuesday, 06 April 2010 18:51
It’s not very often we get to add an entirely new area and guide to the ranks of the LakesBloc crag database, however thanks to Will Williamson and friends we have such an occurrence.
Will and company have climbed on the small outcrops and boulders on the western slopes of Clougha Pike, just east of Lancaster, for a number of years, in that time working out a number of pleasant sectors. The Windy Clough circuit, as it is known, comprises of some superb boulders and short walls of fine Red Rose County grit, similar to that found at nearby Thorn Crag. As a rule the climbing is generally in the lower grades and as such ideal for circuit bouldering. That said since Will’s documenting of the area Greg Chapman has added a couple of harder lines, most notably a superb undercut arête problem on the ‘Country for Old Men Boulder’. This goes at 7b+/V8 and has been named No Country for Old Men (image right).
Thanks to the information and images Will has supplied we have put together a topo-guide covering the 3 small sectors. We have also added a ‘Windy Clough’ page to the crags database, and a relevant image gallery, see the links below.
