Honister Pass

Area Summary

Honister pass starts at Gatesgarth Farm, at the southern end of Buttermere. It connects the Buttermere valley with the eastern end of Borrowdale valley. Rising to 1167 feet in height at the summit, it is one of Cumbria's highest passes, with a gradient of 1 in 4.

There are two main bouldering areas located in the valley: The"Pass Boulders" area revolves around the two or three obvious blocks flanking the road, where it flattens out in the base of the valley. These blocks offer some superb easier lines, with great landings and good moves. The "High Rock" is situated a further few hundred metres north, high up (but still obvious) on the western hillside. This gives the stronger climber the opportunity to test his might. The landings here are a little less good and as such a couple of pads are useful.
