Campsite Block, Eskdale

A quality new granite block has been developed at the below Hollinghead Crag, in lower Eskdale.

This obvious block is situated just above the campsite, 150m up the slope from the railway line, 70m to the left of the main track. There is another faint and usually even boggier path leading directly up to it from the small station. In spite of a regularly damp landing it does feature some class problems, with Millennium Star being a contender for best 6C in the Lakes.

From the left to right the problems go:

Diamond Geezer (7B) SDS The end prow starting sitting with high hands either side. Pull on with difficulty and head straight up. A heel out left may come in handy.

(6A+) Start on a sidepull, pull on and lunge for the top.

Millennium Star (6C) SDS The ultra classic central flake line started on its right side and climbed direct to a surprisingly steep finish. The stand is 6A+. ***

The Cullinan (7C) SDS The right arete climbed on its left is almost as good as its neighbour and features a tough crux off a sloper near the top. The stand is slightly less sustained at 7B+. Fabulous rock and moves! Image above. ***
